Golovin and Safina advance in Stuttgart |

(Stuttgart, Germany) On Monday, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix’s order of play saw the first main draw matches. Tatiana Golovin of France and Dinara Safina of Russia both defeated their first opponents to go through to the second round. The 19-year-old Tatiana Golovin, who the No 19 on the Sony Ericsson WTA World Ranking, beat Martina Müller of Germany, who is ranked at No. 50, 6-1 and 6-1. Dinara Safina defeated Katarina Srebotnik from Slovenia 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Tatiana Golovin, who lost against Nadia Petrova in last years final of the tennis premiere in the Porsche Arena, said: “It’s great to be back. I feel very happy here, the arena motivates me, and my game. I didn’t want to play long rallies today so that I could save my strength. I’m glad things worked out, and that I’ve reached the second round.” The Frenchwoman will meet Russian Anna Chakvetadze in the next round. “It’ll definitely be a very hard match especially as Anna is the world No 6.”
Russian Dinara Safina needed three sets to overcome the Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik. Now in the second round, the No. 17 ranked will meet worlds’ No 1 Justine Henin. The Belgian has seven titles under her belt, including Roland Garros and the US Open, this year.
In the final round of qualifying Karin Knapp of Italy, Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine, Michaëlla Krajicek of The Netherlands and Julia Vakulenko of Ukraine all secured their place in the main draw. Michaëlla Krajicek will play against Kateryna’s sister, Alona Bondarenko, Karin Knapp against Kateryna Bondarenko and Julia Vakulenko against Julia Görges of Germany.
