Is it me or does Inter leave you wanting more? Each time I watch Inter, I can’t figure out what the game plan is. It feels like they’re a team that succeeds by winging games.
So my perception goes.
Put it to you another way. You more or less know what you’re going to get with Juventus (balanced and rugged based on team play), AC Milan (careful, crafty and classy) and AS Roma (free flowing and attacking). Heck, you know what style even smaller clubs like Genoa, Fiorentina and Atalanta will play - that is, predominantly attacking soccer.
Inter? Not sure.
Ironically, despite all its offensive talent, Inter bores fans to tears. Not only that, in a league that’s become exciting in recent years, Inter is grinding out victories unbecoming of their stature. Then again, the team’s glorious period in the 1960s played catenaccio so defense is in their DNA.
I don’t know. I just…don’t…know. Especially since we know what that players are individually: Maicon’s streaking monster runs off the flanks, Ibrahimovich’s sheer striking brilliance, the incredibly tenacious and tireless work of Zanetti and Cambiasso, Cordoba’s hard-nosed defending, Cruz’s goal-scoring efficiency and so on. But on the aggregate, they give the impression they can’t coordinate their collective abilities.
Argghh! It’s so frustrating and I’m not even a fan of the nerazzurri!
Mind you, fans can’t really complain since Inter getting the results. After 20 rounds, they’re Serie A’s league leader with 14 wins, 4 draws and a measely 2 losses - three points clear of Juventus and six of surging Milan.
Which brings me to coach Jose Mourinho.
There’s talk that he may not finish the season. Really? I know the team isn’t convincing media and fans alike but isn’t this a tad excessive? True, even in Champions League the team seems uninspired, if not clueless. Still. It would be bizarre to see a coach with his credentials tossed out without having a real chance to leave his mark.
Fans will be hoping Mourinho has something up those sleeves next month when they face Manchester United next month. It will be a very, very interesting tie indeed. One that may make Mourinho a god or a dud in Italy.
